Laser Hair Removal
Our Astanza MeDioStar laser emits pulses of light energy that safely penetrate through the skin and target the pigment in your hair without damaging the surrounding skin tissue. The light energy travels down the hair shaft and heats the follicle, destroying the root that nourishes your hair and produces growth.
Our laser has 2 different handpieces. Small, which is perfect for facial areas, and extra large, which is the largest in the industry and perfect for the body. Both have the integrated cooling head which cools the skin prior to delivering the laser energy for virtually painless hair removal.
Laser hair removal is only successful on actively growing hair in the anagen phase. There are three stages of hair growth, the anagen phase, catagen phase, and telogen phase. Since each hair grows at an individual pace, there’s no way to tell which stage of growth it is in, which is why several treatments are necessary to target all hairs while in the anagen phase.
The number of treatments needed varies and depends on skin type, treatment area, hair color, and hair density. However, Shining Life Laser and Wellness Center recommends that every customer receives a minimum of 6 for long-lasting results and touch-ups as needed.

Electrolysis
For centuries, people have tried different ways to remove unwanted hair-pumice, potions, poultices. Hair always grew back. Then in 1875, Dr. Charles Michel, MD., successfully removed an ingrown eyelash utilizing a fine wire attached to a battery that was inserted into the hair follicle. By applying a small amount of current, Dr. Michel found the hair did not grow back. Electrolysis was born! Over the years, the machines have changed but one fact remains-electrolysis is the only method recognized by the FDA and the AMA to permanently remove hair.
Electrolysis involves inserting a sterile probe into each hair follicle opening down to the dermal papilla. The dermal papilla is the part of the follicle where the hair is nourished and grows. When the probe is in place, a low-level electrical current is applied and destroys the papilla and the surrounding cells. The loosened hair is then removed with tweezers. Many hairs will be destroyed during each treatment, but some may require more than 1 treatment. That is the reason electrolysis involves a series of treatments over a period of time.
